Newish user here. Have flown 6 flights now from major airports all with DEP freqs in apt.dat files. But each time the controller for TWR tells me to contact CTR at 3000 ft agl or less. Which seems a little off. Any ideas of what to check? settings? etc?

has anyone ever been handed off to DEP?

couple other things i've noticed. when departing on a SID the CTR controller wants to keep you at your initial ALT for the whole thing. even if its 200 nm long.
