MyMenu 3 inactive - error message on screen

Post by colonel25 » Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:23 am

I've attached a screen grab of the error message. It comes up as soon as I start the plugin. I've tried to run the bug report script but it says I don't have permissions for that file although on checking I have full access.

I'm also getting a failure to hand over from one controller to the next, it just hangs with a screen text message saying "contact Approach" and never goes away.

Can you help please?

Regards

Colonel

Hi Colonel,

I would love to help.
But I can't see your screen grab. Maybe you need to try to attach it again.
Also it would help to know a bit about your setup.
Also, some information about the flight you were on when the hand over didn't work.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'll try again with the screen grab, maybe I'm doing something wrong. As for what flight and where was I I'm not sure, but it seems as though the plugin just hangs. Sometimes I can't even get a request to log my flight plan, I try and stop and restart the plugin and eventually it will request a flight plan. I'm just going to launch Xplane to see if my flight log holds any clues.

It has been working fine up to recently and I haven't tried removing it and re-installing it yet which may well fix it. Checking the log.txt file the plugin is loading ok with no errors. I'm using iMac 21.5" i5 3.4 Ghz with 8 GB RAM a Radeon 560 with 4 GB VRAM and a 1TB SSD on board disc and a 2TB HDD external disc with all my Custom Scenery on. I've had some trouble moving all this scenery to the external drive and setting u a Symbolic Link within my Xplane 11 directory.

The screen grab is. an attachment

Hi Paul.

OK. So with this new information, I'd say that the obvious place to look is with the entire external scenery HDD & the symbolic link & the permissions. I'm not saying that it won't or can't work. But it is adding a layer of complexity to your setup that maybe throwing up weird errors.
From what I have read & experienced, there isn't much of a performance gain from having X-Plane on an SSD. So, it might be an option to move X-Plane entirely to the 2 TB so that everything is on the same drive. At least, this way the symbolic link isn't required. If it works, you will know that the problem isn't the plugin. But I appreciate that this is time-consuming.

Attaching a file here is done by clicking on the "Attachments" (next to Options) tab below this message box.
I have attached a simple text file as a test. Hope it works!

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Not sure what's going on with the attachment as I'm doing exactly what you described? Is it possible because it's a .jpg file? I'll try again in this email. I don't think it can be the setup with the external drive as it was working fine. What does 124th need to access in the Custom Scenery file??

I think I'll try removing the plugin and try re-installing it first as yes, it's a big job to move everything else over and I'm not convinced that everything else will work if I do that. I have a lot of other plug ins etc.

I've attached the file again and it's showing in the attachments box with a size of 1005kb. File name is "Screenshot 2020-11-18.jpg". It did have the time on the end before the .jpg extension separated by full stops. Maybe that's the problem

Hi Steve,

Just removed and re-installed and now all ok. When all else fails either re-boot or re-install. Ha ha ha.

Thanks for your help

Hi Paul,

Maybe the attachment is too big? The only thing i can suggest is maybe resize it to ~200kb & try attaching.

I'm glad that removing the plugin & re-installing has worked. But I can't see why it did!
Hopefully, the issue doesn't come back!

Not sure that I helped at all.

Cheers,

Steve

OK Steve, I've noticed an error message in the attachment status which says
"ERROR
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." Don't know how to deal with that??

I've tried to reduce the size, let's see if that works. I was testing my system this morning and regrettably 124th has reverted back to the same problem of not handing over to the approach controller. It sits with a screen message saying "contact Approach controller" in blue but won't pass me over. Looking at the radio it does seem to be selecting the correct frequency but won't respond to my call?

I have installed this morning some additional scenery namely - SimHeaven X-Europe so I'll check the file order in scenery_packs.ini again in case that's the issue.

Hi Paul,

OK. So that error message comes from the phpBB software itself that this forum is running on.
Having tried attaching several files of different size, I think the max file size allowed is extremely small because I was unable to attach anything larger than 50 kb. Also, it looks like only text files are allowed to be attached.
So, I think you can forget about attaching the screenshot.

Yes, I was afraid that the re-install of the plugin was not a permanent fix.
I don't see why installing new scenery should break the plugin either. As long as the new scenery is read by X-plane (via scenery_packs.ini file) at startup, nothing else needs to be done.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi again Steve,

So everything looks ok in the .ini file so I’ve no ideas what’s causing the problem. The “MyMenu 3” error has gone but still problems handing over to different ATC controllers. I’ll keep looking but if you have any ideas please let me know. I’ll go back and check the Options settings. Is it possible that if I didn’t set the Barometric Pressure according to ATC that that would cause such an issue?

Hi Paul,

Something that I meant to ask previously was the "MyMenu 3" error. But I kept forgetting!
I have never seen it before. I don't think it has anything to do with 124th ATC plugin.
And looking through the .org forum, it doesn't look like anyone else has encountered it in X-Plane.

I also meant to ask what if anything does the Log.txt file look like.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

Obviously don’t have the log file now but nothing showed in it at the time in respect of 124th. The reason I believe the error message it is related to 124th is that if I stopped the plug-in when Xplane was running, the error message disappeared and as soon as I started it again, the message came back.

Paul,

The only thing left that I can think of is the Options menu under 124th Plugin.
But I don't know how you're going to share that here.
Maybe just list the ones that are enabled. But again, I don't know if/how it's related to "MyMenu 3" error.

Cheers,

Steve
