I downloaded the 1st attachment below. Then I unzipped it and have the files shown in the 2nd attachment. Are these files correct and if so, now what? Do I move the unzipped files into \x-planefolder\Resources\plugins\124thATC64\navdata\ ??

I don't believe the 124th ATC plugin uses the CIFP files. It only uses the normal navdata fiies such as earth_awy.dat etc. Antonello can confirm this.
The only useful file in the download is the FAACIFP18 file which X-Plane 11 can use if you place it in xplanefolder\Custom Data\

Hope this helps,

Hmmm. Can someone post a link to where the "normal navdata files such as earth_awy.dat etc." are located?? Thanks

The way to get these "normal" files is to via a subscription to Navigraph as they're updated every 30 days. The other way is to buy it from the Aerosoft web site.

Hope this helps,

Oh! I assume the subscription needed is for the Navigraph "FMS data" only and NOT the "Charts". Correct?

Also, I assume this will give me access to all the "normal files" such as earth_awy.dat etc." ....Correct?

Once I have these files. should I move them all into the xplanefolder\Custom Data\ folder? ...... if not, where should I move rhem?

BTW, the Navigraph site seems to imply that it can automatically find my X-Plane / 124ATC folders and install the files properly and automatically without me having to much of anything. Is this true for the initial file set up or only for the monthly updates??

Thanks again for your help and patience!

Hi,

Yes, you need a subscription for FMS data only to get the files. Not the Charts.

Yes, this will give you access to all the "normal files" & in many different formats.

Yes, the files should be placed in xplanefolder\Custom Data\ folder. You can overwrite the existing files.

If you download & install the Navigraph FMS Data Manager software on your PC, you configure all the folders once & when you update, it will put the right files in the right folder. But this configuration process needs to be done correctly.

Hope this helps,

Hopefully this will be close to the end of my questions. I'm trying to be extra careful with this because of a prior bad experience caused by a bad assumption on my part.

1. Is this a complete list of the "normal" files?
earth_awy.dat
earth_fix.dat
earth_hold.dat
earth_mora.dat
earth_msa.dat
earth_nav.dat

2. I intend to install these directly into the xplanefolder\Custom Data\ folder. I dont intend to put them in a subfolder of the xplanefolder\Custom Data\ folder. Correct?

Note an earlier response said to put these files in a directory called "navdata" inside the the 124th ATC plugin directory. Can you confirm the "normal" files belong in the xplanefolder\Custom Data\ folder?, not in the Plugin folder?

3. After the download of the Navigraph FMS files, my understanding I have a choice. Either I can (A) manually move the "normal" files myself as described above or (B) download & install the Navigraph FMS Data Manager software and let it set up the files .... but it sounds like this may be trickier than "A". Which approach would you recommend?

4. Finally, what about the CIFP folder and the FAACIFP data file? I've read these also go in the xplanefolder\Custom Data\. Unlike the "normal" files, these go in the CIFP subfolder that I will create. Is this correct? Is this FAACIFP file optional and if so, is it worth creating?

Thanks again for your help & patience.

1. Yes that is the list for X-Plane itself. If you have addons that require other formats, then you need to check where they go.
E.g. Flighfactor aircraft use the GNS430 format.

2. No Subfolder to created in Custom Data. 124thATC doesn't use the Custom Data folder (as above). So copy the same 6 files into navdata subdirectory of 124thATC plugin directory. Yes, this means you will have 2 places with the same files.

3. Really depends on how many addons you have. If you have many addons, then the FMS Data Manager software might be better as it will update all at the same time & avoids having to do it manually (more mistakes possible). But you also have to make sure that you do the addon mapping correctly with the FMS Data Manager. If you have no addons, then manual copy/replace of older files is straight-forward.

4. Don't mix the 2 up. FAACIFP18 is the only file you get from the download link to the FAA website. If you ONLY fly in the USA, then just rename this file to earth_424.dat & place it in Custom Data folder (no subfolder). You won't need to update the 6 files from Point 1 above because this file contains everything you need for the whole USA.
But if you fly in other parts of the world, then you need to update the 6 files & you don't need the FAACIFP18 file.

CIFP subfolder is a completely different matter. The contents of the CIFP folder come from the Navigraph update & should be copied (overwrite) to the Custom Data\CIFP subfolder.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Steve

Does this mean that if all I want to do is fly in the USA, the only file needed is the FAACIFP 18 file from the free FAA website? ,,, and that the Navdata files aren't needed for flying in the USA only?

Yes. That is my understanding & it is true only for the X-Plane 11 software itself, If you want to fly only in the USA.

If you want to use this 124thATC plugin then you will still need the 6 files that you mentioned previously :

earth_awy.dat
earth_fix.dat
earth_hold.dat
earth_mora.dat
earth_msa.dat
earth_nav.dat

This is because this plugin does not support using the FAACIFP18 file. At least that is my understanding. Antonello can confirm this.

Hope this helps,

Steve - Here is my plan to complete the 124atc installation:

1. I will obtain the six "normal" files from the Navigraph website and copy them to "Xplane folder \ Resources \ plugins \ 124thATC64 \ navdata" folder.

2. I will copy these same six files and put them in "Xplane folder \ Custom Data" folder.

3. If I do both of the above, do I need to download the FAACIFP18 folder? If so, I will download it from the FAA website and place it in the "Xplane folder \ Customer Data" folder. Also, do I need to rename the FAACIFP18 folder to Earth424_dat?

4. Will the above do it? Am I missing something?

5. When I go to download from Navigraph, I heard there are several formats that I have to choose from. How will I know which format to choose?

Thanks again.......
